Evolysse Care Instructions

Evolysse Form and Evolysse Smooth are hyaluronic acid gels made with Evolus's Cold-X process. Results are immediate and, for most people in the studies, still there at a year. Everything you need to know before and after your treatment.

This page is for Evolysse — Form and Smooth. Fillers are not interchangeable and the aftercare genuinely differs between them — if you were treated with something else, ask us for the right sheet rather than following this one.

Before your treatment

Most of the preparation here is about bruising, which is the single most common thing clients want to avoid. Nearly all of it comes down to what is in your system on the day.

One week before

  • Avoid NSAIDs such as ibuprofen and Advil, fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St John's Wort and high-dose vitamin E — all of them increase the risk of bruising.
  • Never stop a prescribed medication without your physician's approval.

Two weeks before

  • If we are treating your smile lines or anywhere near your mouth, avoid dental appointments — and leave two weeks clear afterwards as well.

Twenty-four hours before

  • No alcohol.

On the day

  • Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin so we can assess the area properly.
  • If you bruise easily, arnica tablets the day before can help — check with your healthcare provider before starting any supplement.
  • Keep the area away from extreme heat or cold before you come in.

Please tell us before we begin

  • Severe allergies — a history of anaphylaxis, or several severe allergies
  • A known allergy to lidocaine
  • A known allergy to Gram-positive bacterial proteins
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • A history of excessive scarring
  • Blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen or anything else that prolongs bleeding
  • Medication that lowers your immune response
  • A history of cold sores, if we are treating around your mouth
  • Any sore, pimple, rash, hive, cyst or infection on the area we would treat
  • Any laser treatment, chemical peel or other procedure you have booked

Evolysse is approved for adults over twenty-two, and it has not been studied in pregnancy or breastfeeding, so we do not treat in those situations. Two of these catch people out. The hyaluronic acid in Evolysse is made by bacterial fermentation, so an allergy to Gram-positive bacterial proteins matters even though there is no bacteria in the syringe. And tell us about anything you have booked as well as anything past — a peel or laser soon after filler can set off an inflammatory reaction. If you have a sore or breakout on the area, we postpone until it has healed.

Plan your downtime. Results are immediate, and in the studies most people still had their correction at twelve months — seventy-two per cent with Form, sixty-six with Smooth. Tenderness, swelling, bruising, redness and small lumps are all common in the first few days: with Form, between fifty-eight and seventy-six per cent of people had each of them. Most were mild and settled on their own within a week. Anything that lasted longer had resolved within thirty days for Smooth and sixty for Form. Because Evolysse is hyaluronic acid it can also be dissolved if it ever needs to be — that is not true of every filler.

After your treatment

For the first twenty-four hours

  • Keep the treated area away from extreme temperatures — intense cold, saunas, steam rooms — until the swelling and redness have settled.
  • No makeup straight after treatment — it raises the risk of infection.
  • Do not touch your face, unless you are applying something we have specifically asked you to.
  • No strenuous exercise. Light walking is fine.

For twenty-four to forty-eight hours

  • Sleep on your back to maintain the placement.

For two weeks

  • No facials or massage on the treated areas.
  • No dental appointments if we treated near your mouth.
  • No laser treatment or chemical peel on the area unless we have planned it with you — there is a risk of an inflammatory reaction.

Small lumps in the first week are usual. Between half and six in ten people in the studies noticed them, and most settled on their own within a week. A firm area still there after two weeks is a different thing — tell us about that one.

Rare, but treat it as an emergency: severe or steadily increasing pain, skin that turns white, blotchy or dusky, any change in your vision, or any sign of a stroke. Call us immediately on (949) 998-5501 — phone, not text — or go straight to an emergency room. Caught early this is manageable — caught late it is not.

Call or text us right away if

  • swelling or bruising is getting worse rather than settling after forty-eight hours.
  • you develop spreading redness, warmth, pus or a fever — these are signs of infection.
  • a lump or firm area has not settled after two weeks.
  • you develop a cold sore after treatment around your mouth.
