What the test tells you
A nerve conduction study measures how well electrical signals travel along a nerve. Needle EMG measures how the muscle responds. Together they answer questions an MRI often cannot: is the nerve actually damaged, how badly, how long has it been going on, and where exactly is the problem.
People come to us for:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome, with numb or tingling fingers and waking up to shake out a hand
- A pinched nerve in the neck or lower back sending pain down an arm or leg
- Neuropathy: burning, numbness or pins and needles in the feet, often with diabetes
- Ulnar nerve trouble at the elbow, foot drop, or weakness with no clear cause
- Confirmation before surgery, or a second opinion on a study done elsewhere
What happens at your visit
Plan on 30 to 90 minutes, depending on how many limbs are tested. Electrodes are taped to the skin and brief pulses are delivered, which feel like a quick tap or snap. Then a physician places a very thin needle into selected muscles; it feels like a pinprick with an ache when you tense. There is no sedation, no dye, and no radiation. You can drive yourself home and go back to your day.
A physician performs the needle portion and interprets the whole study. You hear preliminary findings before you leave, and the signed report follows the same day, 48 hours at the outside, to you and to your referring provider if you would like.
How to prepare
- Shower the day of the test and skip lotion or oil on your arms and legs
- Wear loose clothing that lets us reach the limb being tested
- Keep taking your usual medications, including blood thinners, unless we tell you otherwise
- Arrive with warm hands and feet, since cold limbs change the results
- Tell us in advance about blood thinners, a pacemaker or defibrillator, lymphedema, or pregnancy

Repetitive nerve stimulation, up to 3 nerves — $450, or $250 added to a limb study
Each additional nerve for repetitive stimulation — $100

Narrative report for an attorney or disability claim — $500
A $250 deposit holds your appointment and is applied to your bill. Cancel at least 48 hours ahead and it moves with you.
For referring providers
Send your order, clinic note and relevant imaging to 949-998-5501. We schedule the patient directly and return a signed report the same day, 48 hours at the outside. We are a direct-pay practice: we see uninsured patients and insured patients who choose to pay directly. Medicare and Medicare Advantage patients are tested by Dr. Camana, who has opted out of Medicare, under a private contract; Dr. Nguyen, who is enrolled in Medicare, does not test Medicare patients at this office. We cannot accept Medi-Cal, workers' compensation or personal-injury cases.
